The Detroit Pistons have opted to bring Paul Reed back into the fold just days after waiving him on Saturday. In a corresponding move, the team announced they have parted ways with guard Javante McCoy.

This series of roster adjustments was strategic, allowing the Pistons to increase their financial flexibility.

By leveraging these “cap gymnastics,” as noted by NBA insider Keith Smith, Detroit managed to raise its available cap space from $10.5 million to an estimated $14 million.

This boost in cap space positions the team better for potential trades or acquisitions during the season.

Reed, who has appeared in 12 games this season, has been providing solid contributions off the bench. The 25-year-old forward/center has averaged 4.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in just over 10 minutes per game.

With his return, Detroit aims to maximize his energy and hustle on the court while maintaining their broader roster strategy.
