The Brooklyn Nets have parted ways with guard Keon Johnson, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto.
Scotto reported on X that Brooklyn waived Johnson, who played his first full season with the franchise in 2024–25 and became a key part of the rotation.
Johnson appeared in 79 games last year, starting 56. He averaged 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while logging 24.4 minutes per game.
The 23-year-old delivered steady production as a two-way option in the backcourt but struggled with shooting efficiency, hitting 38.9 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Originally drafted 21st overall in the 2021 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks and traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, Johnson later played for the Portland Trail Blazers before arriving in Brooklyn.
His career averages stand at 8.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists across 161 NBA games.
Brooklyn added several young guards through the 2025 NBA Draft, including Egor Demin, Nolan Traoré, and Ben Saraf.
The influx of backcourt talent created a crowded depth chart, leaving Johnson as the odd man out.
Head coach Jordi Fernández now has a roster built heavily around youth and versatility, with Johnson’s departure opening more opportunities for the rookie class and established contributors like Ricky Council IV and Dariq Whitehead.
