Miikka Muurinen’s profile is climbing fast, with the 18-year-old Finnish forward now on the radar of both NCAA bluebloods and NBA franchises.
Standing 2.10 meters tall with a 2.20-meter wingspan, Muurinen has shown he can hold his own against professionals at EuroBasket 2025. He’s averaging 5.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in just over 10 minutes per game for Finland, highlighted by a 9-point showing against Serbia in the Round of 16.
NBA Big Board reported that programs such as Arkansas, Duke, and Kentucky are actively recruiting him, and his international performances have only strengthened that push. He is currently ranked as a consensus five-star recruit and sits inside the top 10 of the 2026 class by Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN.
Muurinen’s path has been unique. He began at Beat Basket in Järvenpää, moved to Spain at 15 to join Zentro Basket Madrid, and later transitioned to the United States. He played last season at Sunrise Christian Academy before transferring to Arizona Compass Prep.
His breakout came in July 2024, when he helped Bradley Beal Elite win the EYBL Peach Jam, scoring 21 points in the championship game. The performance placed him firmly in the spotlight for college recruiters.
On the European stage, Muurinen, nicknamed ‘Slim Jesus,’ has gained valuable experience. He represented the Next Generation Select Team at the EuroLeague Next Generation tournament in Dubai, averaging 7 points, 5 rebounds, and a block per game.
Scouts point to his blend of size, versatility, and defensive instincts as traits that project well for higher levels. His ability to stretch the floor and finish around the rim makes him an attractive fit in today’s game.
The NCAA recruitment battle is expected to intensify, with multiple offers already on the table from Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, UCLA, and Arkansas. A decision could come within the next year, though many expect him to keep options open until closer to 2026.
For NBA teams, the focus is on long-term development. His performances at EuroBasket have proven he can compete physically, but scouts see room for growth in his perimeter shooting and playmaking.
