Miikka Muurinen became one of EuroBasket 2025’s breakout stories, playing a key role in Finland’s surprising run to the semifinals. At just 18, he averaged 6.6 points on 60.6 percent shooting and quickly drew interest from bigger clubs and international scouts.

After the tournament, Muurinen joined Partizan in Serbia, but the 6-foot-10 forward has made it clear that the move is a short-term developmental step.

“I’m unlikely to stay in Europe, but it’s an option,” he said. “This is just a one-year stopover, to learn as much as I can, to grow as a player and to get the most out of this opportunity, and then take that to college and hopefully the NBA.”

Muurinen nearly entered the NCAA ranks last year before choosing Partizan, where minutes have been limited. This time, he intends to move to the U.S. and won’t turn down college opportunities.

“I’ve had a few offers. I’ve been getting offers from colleges for a long time,” he said. “I’m going there next year so I’m not turning down any offers, I’m just waiting. I’d rather go to college than stay in Europe.”

If he follows that path, Muurinen could go pro after one season and become an early-entry candidate for the 2027 NBA Draft.
