Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel highlights that the recent contract extension signed by Mikal Bridges with the New York Knicks serves as a useful point of comparison for the Miami Heat’s potential negotiations with Tyler Herro in the future.
While Bridges has not yet been named an NBA All-Star or received any major individual awards – both of which Herro has achieved – Bridges is widely regarded as a more well-rounded two-way player, excelling on both offense and defense.
This distinction makes the comparison particularly interesting when considering their respective values and roles on their teams.
Bridges agreed to a four-year extension worth an average of $37.5 million per season, a substantial deal reflecting his importance to the Knicks.
However, despite this sizeable contract, Winderman suggests that the amount might still fall short of what it would take to secure Herro’s commitment for a long-term deal with the Heat.
Given Herro’s offensive talents, scoring ability, and rising star status, Miami may need to prepare for the possibility of offering a more lucrative contract if they want to keep him in the fold for the foreseeable future.
