Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee remains undecided, and several teams across the league are monitoring the situation closely, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

Speaking on First Take, Charania said the two-time MVP has been “evaluating his future this entire offseason,” with no firm decision yet on whether he plans to remain with the Bucks or seek a trade.

Charania first reported in mid-May that Antetokounmpo was keeping an open mind regarding his long-term fit in Milwaukee. He added that the star forward has held “real conversations” with his inner circle in recent weeks.

One central question surrounding Antetokounmpo’s deliberations is whether Milwaukee’s current roster is capable of contending for another championship, both this season and in the years ahead.

The Bucks have undergone major changes this offseason, parting ways with Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez, and Pat Connaughton. The front office added Myles Turner, Cole Anthony, and Gary Harris among others, but the revamped roster lacks the proven cohesion of past years.

Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists last season. He also posted 33.0 points per game in the 2025 playoffs, where the Bucks were eliminated in the first round for the second time in three seasons.

Charania noted that multiple franchises are currently “waiting to see” if Antetokounmpo becomes available. He highlighted past summer trades involving Kyrie Irving in August and Damian Lillard in September as examples of how late-offseason deals can still reshape the league.

Training camps begin in mid-September, giving the Bucks limited time to either convince their franchise player to stay or prepare for a potential blockbuster deal.

Only Antetokounmpo can make the final decision, and according to Charania, he is determined to take that step on his own timeline.

As of August 3, no trade discussions involving the Greek forward have surfaced publicly, but front offices around the league are staying ready in case that changes.
