San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox has secured his long-term future with the franchise, agreeing to a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension, according to Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul.
The deal was first reported by Shams Charania, who broke the news via X on Monday afternoon.
The extension ties Fox to the Spurs through the 2029–30 season and removes one of the key offseason questions facing San Antonio’s front office.
Fox, 27, joined the Spurs in February as part of a three-team trade that cost San Antonio draft picks and multiple young assets. In 17 games following the move, he averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists.
Despite early uncertainty about whether San Antonio would fully commit to a long-term deal, Monday’s agreement signals a decisive shift.
Charania’s report comes right after Marc Stein noted growing skepticism around Fox’s extension timeline, citing internal roster competition and front office deliberations.
The emergence of 2024–25 Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle complicated matters. Castle averaged 14.7 points and 4.1 assists in his first NBA season, showing two-way promise and starting 47 games.
The Spurs’ selection of Rutgers guard Dylan Harper with the No. 2 overall pick in June’s draft only added to speculation. Harper, 19, brings high-level playmaking ability and profiles as a long-term starter in the backcourt.
Even with Castle and Harper in place, the franchise opted to keep its veteran floor general under contract for the next five years.
Fox, a former All-Star and All-NBA guard, has averaged 21.5 points and 6.1 assists over his career. His leadership and ability to initiate offense have remained consistent since entering the league in 2017.
