The Sacramento Kings and veteran point guard Russell Westbrook have “strong interest” in joining forces, according to multiple reports.

Carmichael Dave of Sactown Sports tweeted that the sides have been in contact “for a while” and estimated the likelihood of a deal at “80-20 he’s a King.”

Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star, became an unrestricted free agent after completing the 2024–25 season with the Denver Nuggets.

He averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds across 75 games while playing primarily off the bench.

In the playoffs, he added 11.7 points per game, showing he can still be a valuable contributor in limited minutes.

The Kings are exploring options at point guard following the midseason departure of De’Aaron Fox, who was traded to the Spurs in February.

Since then, Sacramento has added Dennis Schroder and shown interest in Tyus Jones, who ultimately signed with the Orlando Magic.

Sam Amick of The Athletic told Sactown Sports 1140 that new Kings GM Scott Perry has “a lot of affinity for Russ,” but acknowledged that Sacramento’s current roster presents complications.

“But the backcourt is already pretty crowded,” Amick said, noting concerns within the organization about “making it even worse.”

Despite the logjam, the Kings are still weighing Westbrook’s experience, leadership, and playmaking as potential assets for a team led by Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan.

Sacramento missed the 2025 playoffs after a late-season slide and is focused on bolstering its backcourt depth with veteran stability.
