With the 2025 NBA free agency period fast approaching, the Sacramento Kings are actively exploring options to address their point guard vacancy.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Kings are evaluating multiple veteran guards, including Tyus Jones and Russell Westbrook, as potential signings this offseason.
Jones, 29, is an unrestricted free agent after completing a one-year, $3 million contract with the Phoenix Suns. The 6-foot-1 playmaker appeared in 81 games during the 2024–25 season, averaging 10.2 points and 5.3 assists in 26.8 minutes per contest while shooting 41.4% from three-point range.
Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star, also becomes an unrestricted free agent after spending the season with the Denver Nuggets, contributing 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds across 75 regular season appearances. He came off the bench during the postseason and averaged 11.7 points in 24.1 minutes.
Sacramento’s backcourt rotation is in flux following the February trade that sent De’Aaron Fox to San Antonio.
The franchise finished 40–42 and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year, falling to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference play-in tournament.
The Kings have already emerged as a strong suitor for Dennis Schroder, per Marc Stein, but Jones and Westbrook are both being seriously considered if a deal with Schroder does not materialize.
Sacramento’s current core—Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan—lacks a traditional point guard. With free agency set to begin shortly after the NBA Draft, the Kings are expected to make an aggressive push to fill that void.
