The Sacramento Kings remain interested in signing Russell Westbrook this offseason, though roster challenges may complicate a deal.
Sam Amick of The Athletic told Sactown Sports 1140, via HoopsHype, “The sense I had gotten was that the Kings and Scott (Perry) have a lot of affinity for Russ, without question.”
However, he added, “But the backcourt is already pretty crowded, and there was concern about making it even worse.”
Amick continued, “I’ve certainly been leaning in the direction of thinking that’s not going to happen. Nothing has changed roster-wise to alter the logjam that a move like that would create.”
Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star, became an unrestricted free agent after spending the 2024–25 season with the Denver Nuggets.
He averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds in 75 regular-season games and contributed 11.7 points off the bench in the playoffs.
The Kings’ backcourt is in flux following the February trade that sent De’Aaron Fox to San Antonio.
The team has already signed Dennis Schroder and considered Tyus Jones before Jones signed with the Orlando Magic.
With a core led by Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan, the Kings need a traditional point guard to balance their lineup.
