Former San Antonio Spurs center Charles Bassey is currently in talks with multiple European clubs, but according to Eurohoops, the 24-year-old appears to be favoring a move to Serbian powerhouse KK Partizan Belgrade.
The negotiations were confirmed by Bassey’s agent, Mark McNeil, during an interview with Meridian Sport.
“Charles is honored by the interest shown by Basketball Club Partizan,” McNeil stated. “He is definitely considering the offer and will continue discussions with the club and his representative. Other European clubs have also contacted him, but Partizan has been his priority.”
Bassey made headlines during this year’s NBA Summer League, where he delivered a strong performance for the Boston Celtics, averaging 15.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and shooting an impressive 70.4% from the field in Las Vegas.
His play sparked speculation that he might land a training camp invite with the Celtics or another NBA team.
However, despite the buzz, Bassey left Summer League action after just three games due to a prior commitment, and it now seems he is leaning toward a more secure path with guaranteed money in Europe, rather than waiting for an uncertain NBA opportunity.
Originally drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 53rd pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Bassey played one season in Philadelphia before being waived and subsequently picked up by the Spurs.
Over the past three seasons with San Antonio, he saw limited but promising action, appearing in 36 games last year and averaging 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in just over 10 minutes per game.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Bassey moved to the United States during his teenage years and played three collegiate seasons at Western Kentucky University before entering the NBA.
Despite his international roots, he has never played professionally overseas – making this potential move to Partizan his first European basketball experience.
Partizan, a perennial contender in both the Adriatic League and EuroLeague, has been aggressively bolstering its roster with former NBA talent.
Just earlier this week, they secured the signing of Shake Milton, and their squad already features notable names such as Jabari Parker, Sterling Brown, Isaac Bonga, Aleksej Pokusevski, Frank Ntilikina, Duane Washington Jr., and Carlik Jones.
Adding Bassey would further strengthen an already impressive frontcourt rotation and reinforce Partizan’s ambitions for a deep EuroLeague run.
