Devonte’ Graham nears first overseas deal with Crvena Zvezda

After spending the previous season in the NBA G League, veteran point guard Devonte’ Graham is reportedly close to finalizing a deal with Serbian club Crvena Zvezda, according to Eurohoops, which references an initial report by Sport Klub.

The 30-year-old floor general has been engaged in discussions with the Belgrade-based team for a while, and a move appears imminent.

Graham began the 2023–24 campaign in NBA training camp with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he signed an Exhibit 9 contract. However, he was released before the regular season tipped off.

Later in December, he signed with the South Bay Lakers – the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers – but only suited up for five games.

During that brief stint, he averaged 10.8 points and 4.4 assists per contest. In February, his G League rights were traded to the Rip City Remix, Portland’s affiliate, but he never appeared in a game for them.

Originally selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 34th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and subsequently traded to Charlotte, Graham quickly made a name for himself with the Hornets.

He broke out in his second season, averaging an impressive 18.2 points and 7.5 assists per game, earning recognition as one of the league’s rising young guards.

However, he struggled to maintain that level of production in the following seasons. He was dealt to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2021 and then to the San Antonio Spurs in 2023.

In a full-circle moment, San Antonio traded Graham back to the Hornets during the summer of 2023, along with a second-round draft pick that Charlotte used to select Ryan Kalkbrenner.

Nevertheless, the Hornets waived Graham the same day the trade was completed, leaving him without an NBA team heading into the season.

Over the course of his NBA career, Graham appeared in 336 regular season games and started in 171 of them. He compiled career averages of 11.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.

Should he finalize the reported agreement with Crvena Zvezda, it would represent Graham’s first professional experience playing outside the United States, marking a significant new chapter in his basketball journey.
