Charles Bassey addressed the importance of results and preparation following his career-high performance in the Los Angeles Clippers’ 115-110 win over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday at Intuit Dome.
“I mean, it felt good, you know, but we didn’t get the win. That’s all that really matters,” Bassey said, immediately shifting focus away from individual production.
The Clippers center highlighted the team’s short-term objective as the play-in tournament approaches. “We’re trying to prepare ourselves to go get this play-in and just get this win, get these two play-in games so we can get in the playoffs,” he said.
Bassey added that film study and correction remain central to the group’s approach. “We’re going to go back, watch the film and see what we did bad today,” he said, reinforcing a detail-driven mindset ahead of a rematch with Golden State.
Looking ahead to the elimination-style environment on Wednesday, he pointed to intensity as a defining factor. “It’s going to be different because the intensity is going to be crazy. So we just got to match it,” Bassey said.
He described the upcoming matchup as close to postseason pressure despite its single-game format. “It’s going to feel like a playoff game, but it’s going to be different. We just got to be on detail and just go out there and know what we’re doing as a team,” he said.
The Clippers’ roster experience was also a central theme in his evaluation of their chances in a win-or-go-home setting. “They’ve been there. They’ve been in this situation. They’ve won four championships together,” Bassey said, referencing veteran leadership on the roster.
He expanded on that point, adding, “Steph, Dre, and Al Horford, he’s won a championship too. KP has won a championship too. So just listening to those vets, man, it’s going to be great for the team.”
Bassey also stressed the importance of execution from both starters and reserves. “It starts with them. Hopefully they bring great energy and the guys coming off the bench can match that,” he said.
Beyond team context, he reflected on his own offensive growth, including perimeter development. “Since I’ve been in the league, I’ve never really been on a team where they’ve really made me shoot it, but I feel like it’s coming,” Bassey said.
He noted his shooting background and confidence when given space. “Even when I was with the G League this year, you guys know I shot like 42% from the three-point line,” he said.
The big man closed by reiterating his primary identity as a defensive presence while remaining open to expanded responsibilities. “If it’s wide open, I’m going to take it… really my mindset is just trying to rebound, block shots, play defense,” Bassey said.
