The Utah Jazz have officially waived guard Jaden Springer, the team confirmed in a press release.

The decision comes ahead of a Friday deadline, by which the team had to decide whether to partially guarantee $400,000 of Springer’s $2.35 million non-guaranteed salary for the upcoming season.

Rather than commit to the partial guarantee, Utah opted to release the 22-year-old guard, making him a free agent unless another team claims him off waivers. The player will now be seeking his next opportunity in the NBA.

Springer initially joined the Jazz on a 10-day contract earlier this year and later signed a three-year deal in March. However, the final two seasons of that contract were non-guaranteed, making it easier for the Jazz to part ways without financial penalty.

During his brief stint with Utah, Springer appeared in 17 games (2 starts) and averaged 3.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 13.2 minutes per game.

His path to Utah began when the Celtics traded him to the Rockets at the 2024 trade deadline, along with a future second-round pick.

Houston subsequently waived him, and Springer signed with the Jazz after clearing waivers. Earlier in the season, he appeared in 26 games off the bench for Boston.

Originally selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft, Springer has had difficulty securing a consistent rotation spot at the pro level.

Across 110 career NBA games, he’s averaged 2.9 points in 8.8 minutes per game, shooting just 23.8% from three-point range, which has been a limiting factor in his development as a modern combo guard.

With Springer’s release, Utah’s roster now sits at 15 players under standard contracts, filling all available spots unless future moves are made.
