The Phoenix Suns are actively seeking to strengthen their backcourt by acquiring an experienced ballhandler following the departure of Tyus Jones in free agency, according to sources cited by Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Among the names connected to Phoenix is veteran guard Chris Paul. However, recent reports suggest that Paul is now poised to join the Los Angeles Clippers, effectively closing that chapter for the Suns.

In addition to Paul, the Suns have engaged in ongoing discussions with Ben Simmons, a versatile playmaker who has attracted interest from several other teams, including the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Sacramento Kings.

Phoenix was also in the running to secure the services of Marcus Smart, a highly sought-after defensive-minded guard.

Nevertheless, Smart ultimately opted to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers after receiving a direct pitch from Luka Doncic, solidifying his choice to join the Western Conference contenders.

With key free-agent targets signing elsewhere, the Suns remain in search of the right veteran presence to fill the void and provide leadership and ballhandling stability for their roster moving forward.
