As trade chatter surrounding LeBron James heats up, multiple reports indicate that neither the Dallas Mavericks nor the New York Knicks are currently pursuing the Lakers star.

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported that the Knicks are content with their offseason moves and have no plans to disrupt their rotation to acquire James. “They’re happy with what they got from Mike Brown. They love the Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele additions. They think they’ve got a rotation that’s nine or ten deep,” Mannix said during a recent podcast appearance.

The Mavericks have also ruled themselves out of the running, according to Rachel Nichols. She stated that “the Mavericks do not want LeBron James” and have communicated that stance through several reporters.

James, 40, opted into his $52.6 million player option for the 2025–26 season, which includes a full no-trade clause. That provision gives him full control over his next destination, making it difficult for the Lakers to move him without his consent.

Bobby Marks of ESPN pointed out that James’ contract, age, and one-year term make a trade less appealing for teams. Marks reported that front offices across the league agree trading for James “is not smart business” under the current circumstances.

Mannix and Nichols also questioned whether the Clippers could assemble a package that would appeal to Los Angeles.

At this time, no indication has surfaced that James is pushing for a trade or a buyout.
