Guerschon Yabusele had options this summer. After re-establishing himself in the NBA with a strong showing in Philadelphia, the French forward quickly drew attention from contending teams.
Among them were the reigning champions from the Mile High City – but Yabusele chose the Big Apple instead.
“I had two offers on the table: Denver and New York,” Yabusele explained. “When New York came in, they said I had to decide in two hours. That’s how fast it was. But you can’t hesitate when New York is calling. The city, the team, the vibe – it all just felt right.”
While the Nuggets offered a proven winning formula and continuity, Yabusele saw something uniquely compelling in the Knicks’ current trajectory.
With a roster that just made a deep playoff run and key reinforcements on the way, New York’s upward momentum made a lasting impression.
“They’ve really grown as a franchise these last few years,” he said. “They’re not just a famous name anymore – they’re a serious contender. They’ve got a vision, and they’re playing great team basketball. That means something to me. I want to play for a team that’s chasing a title, not just playing games.”
Beyond the basketball, Yabusele spoke with enthusiasm about life off the court in New York. The culture, the energy, and the opportunity to live in such a dynamic environment added another layer to his decision.
“You’re not just playing basketball – you’re living in one of the best cities in the world,” he said. “That matters too. New York offers an incredible environment both on and off the court.”
And of course, there’s the historic venue that every player dreams of.
“Madison Square Garden is like no other,” Yabusele said with a smile. “It’s where legends are made. Every NBA player dreams of playing there at some point in their career. For me, it’s really special. I’m excited. I’m ready.”
