Guerschon Yabusele has discussed his decision to join Panathinaikos, highlighting the opportunity to work with Zeljko Obradovic and compete at the highest level of European basketball.

Speaking on Magenta TV’s “Pick n’ Roll” show, the French forward explained that the Greek club’s ambitions and the quality of its roster were important factors in his decision.

“I wanted to play for the best coach in the EuroLeague and alongside some of the best players. I wanted to join a top-level team that wants to be at the very top.”

Yabusele also compared Panathinaikos to the Boston Celtics, one of his former NBA teams, pointing to similarities in their traditions and identities.

“It’s difficult to make a comparison, but I’d say the Celtics and Panathinaikos because of the culture, the colors, and Boston’s Irish heritage. Still, Europe and the NBA are different.”

The French international has experienced several basketball environments throughout his career, having played in China and for NBA organizations including Boston, Philadelphia, New York and Chicago.

Reflecting on his career, Yabusele acknowledged that he never expected to play for so many different teams across multiple countries.

“I never imagined my career would turn out this way. I played in China, Philadelphia, Chicago, and New York. I try to stay grounded. As long as my family is doing well, I’m doing well.”

He also spoke positively about his experiences with NBA fans, highlighting the atmosphere in several arenas and the support he received throughout his time in the league.

“It’s been an incredible experience: different teams, different fans. Playing at Madison Square Garden was amazing. Going to TD Garden is a special experience. Playing in Philadelphia was incredible, too. The fans showed us love even when we were losing. My last stop, Chicago, was a different organization, but the fans were always there.”
