As the Miami Heat shift toward a younger core, veteran big man Bam Adebayo may no longer be the ideal long-term fit for the franchise’s direction, suggests Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel.
With Adebayo nearing his 28th birthday and approaching the final year of his current contract before a lucrative extension takes effect, the timing raises questions about his place on the roster.
Winderman argues that the player’s age and salary trajectory could put Miami in a difficult position.
Beginning in the 2026/27 season, Adebayo is set to earn $51 million annually – an amount that’s harder to justify if the Heat are not firmly in contention.
As the team retools around younger players, holding onto a high-priced veteran might not align with their competitive window.
Given those factors, Winderman believes the Heat should seriously consider exploring trade options for Adebayo while his value remains high, especially if the franchise is leaning into a longer-term rebuild rather than pursuing short-term playoff success.
