As NBA free agency approaches, multiple teams are showing interest in veteran center Clint Capela, according to insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Sources indicate the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Antonio Spurs are among the franchises expected to pursue Capela.
Capela, 31, recently completed a two-year, $45.9 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks. In the 2024-25 season, he averaged 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game while shooting 55.9% from the field in 21.4 minutes per contest. His defensive presence and rebounding skills continue to make him a valuable asset.
The Clippers and Lakers, both Western Conference playoff contenders, could benefit from Capela’s rim protection and efficiency inside. Los Angeles teams have sought frontcourt depth to complement their stars. Meanwhile, the Spurs, in a rebuilding phase, may look to Capela as a veteran anchor to stabilize their rotation.
Capela has spent the majority of his career as a reliable center, averaging 12 points and 10.5 rebounds per game over 664 career regular-season games. His ability to defend the paint and contribute offensively in pick-and-roll situations has been a key feature of his game.
Last season, Capela appeared in 55 games, starting 41, for the Hawks. Despite Atlanta missing the playoffs, his individual performance remained consistent, with an emphasis on rebounding and defensive efficiency.
