Kevin Porter Jr. has informed the Milwaukee Bucks that he will let his $2.5 million player option for the 2025-26 NBA season expire, according to league sources cited by Eric Nehm and Fred Katz. This decision makes the 25-year-old shooting guard an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Porter Jr. spent the 2024-25 season with two teams, including 30 games with Milwaukee. He averaged 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game with the Bucks, shooting an efficient 49.4% from the field and 40.8% on three-pointers. During the playoffs, Porter Jr. played five games, contributing 11.2 points and 5.4 assists per contest.
Originally on a two-year, $4.8 million deal, Porter Jr.’s decision to decline his option opens the door for him to explore opportunities elsewhere in free agency. At 25 years old, he brings a versatile scoring and playmaking skill set, with career averages of 13.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists over five NBA seasons.
Milwaukee finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 48-34 record, securing the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. They were eliminated in the first round by the Indiana Pacers, who won the series 4-1.
Porter’s journey has included stints with Cleveland, Houston, Los Angeles Clippers, and Milwaukee. After sitting out the 2023-24 season to play for PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece, he returned to the NBA and showed flashes of his potential, especially in his shooting efficiency and playmaking.
