The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to pursue free agent center Brook Lopez this offseason, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer via Marc Stein’s Substack.

Lopez, 37, has become an unrestricted free agent after his two-year, $48 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks expired. The veteran big man has been one of the NBA’s most reliable centers over the past decade, known for his scoring ability, rim protection, and three-point shooting.

Two summers ago, Lopez was aggressively courted by teams like San Antonio and Houston before ultimately re-signing with Milwaukee. This time, however, multiple franchises anticipate the Lakers, who have a pressing need for a seasoned center, will make a strong push to add him.

Lopez has averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and nearly two blocks per game this season. He played in all 80 regular-season games, maintaining an efficient shooting split with 37.3% from three-point range and 50.9% overall field goal percentage. His ability to stretch the floor while protecting the rim aligns with the Lakers’ style and roster construction.

Los Angeles finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 50-32 record, placing third in the Western Conference. Despite strong performances from stars, the team faces shortage of depth at center. Adding a veteran like Lopez could provide stability and experience in the frontcourt.
