The Los Angeles Clippers selected Yanic Konan Niederhauser with the 30th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Executive Lawrence Frank revealed the team has been searching for a center with a skill set similar to Clint Capela’s.
Frank spoke about the decision to draft Niederhauser in the first round, noting the inherent uncertainty in selecting big men at that stage. The Clippers aim to beat those odds by focusing on potential and fit rather than polished skills alone.
Niederhauser, a 22-year-old center from Switzerland, played three seasons at Penn State after transferring from Northern Illinois. His 2024-25 college stats include 25.1 minutes per game, shooting 61.1% from the field, and averaging 12.9 points and 6.3 rebounds.
The Clippers believe his ability to run the floor and finish plays aligns with their need for a mobile, defensive-minded big man.
Frank and Clippers general manager Trent Redden refrained from making direct player comparisons for Niederhauser but emphasized the team’s desire to add a versatile center who can protect the rim and contribute in transition.
The Clippers finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 50-32 record, tied for fifth in the Western Conference. Their frontcourt depth was a key area identified for improvement as they prepare for a playoff push.
