Former NBA star Kenyon Martin shared strong thoughts about his time playing under George Karl, suggesting the team missed a championship opportunity due to coaching.
Speaking on The OGs podcast, Martin said, via HoopsHype, “If we had a different coach, we win a championship, bro. No doubt about it.”
He emphasized the importance of a coach who understands both the game and the players. “Your coach gotta get you one,” Martin said.
Martin acknowledged Karl’s basketball knowledge but criticized the lack of preparation for critical in-game scenarios. “We never worked on end-of-game situations,” he said.
He recalled a key Western Conference Finals matchup against the Lakers. “We throw the ball away twice because we’re trying to zip Melo up. We didn’t run any action,” Martin explained.
The team’s failure to execute proper plays late in the game led to turnovers and lost opportunities, according to Martin.
He played six and a half years under Karl but felt the coaching fell short on strategy during pressure moments.
