Kenyon Martin made a bold statement about Kobe Bryant’s scoring ability during an appearance on the Gil’s Arena podcast, sparking a wave of debate across the basketball community.

Speaking on the show, Martin argued that Bryant’s offensive skill set and mentality would dominate the modern NBA. “In this era, if he played in this era today, this man would average 75 points,” Martin said, via HoopsHype.

Bryant, who retired in 2016 after a 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, was known as one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. He finished with 33,643 career points and famously dropped 81 points against the Toronto Raptors in 2006 — the second-highest single-game scoring performance in league history.

Martin, who faced Bryant many times during his career, suggested that today’s pace, defensive restrictions, and emphasis on three-point shooting would allow Bryant even more opportunities to score.

The comment comes amid ongoing discussions about how superstars from previous generations would perform in today’s game.
