Newly appointed Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott is expected to meet with the team’s current assistant coaches in the coming days as he begins shaping his coaching staff, according to Jake Fischer.

One key decision will involve associate head coach David Fizdale, who was a central figure on the previous staff and is widely respected around the league.

Fischer reports there was a “strong belief” throughout the Suns’ coaching search that the organization would encourage Ott to retain Fizdale as part of his bench.

However, it remains uncertain whether Fizdale will be open to staying in a subordinate role, particularly after being seriously considered for the head coaching position himself and reportedly receiving multiple interviews during the hiring process.

As the new coach builds out his support team, two names with strong personal and professional ties to him have emerged as potential additions.

One is DeMarre Carroll, currently an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who has worked alongside Ott on three different NBA teams.

The other is Jared Dudley, a Dallas Mavericks assistant and former Suns player, who is also reportedly in the mix to join Ott’s staff.

Ott’s staffing decisions will be closely watched, as they could signal the direction and culture he intends to establish in his first head coaching role.
