The New York Knicks made a bid for Kevin Durant at the February trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
“There was a mutual interest between Kevin Durant and the Knicks at the trade deadline,” Charania said Thursday on ESPN. “The Knicks made an offer for Kevin Durant at the NBA trade deadline.”
Durant, under contract with the Phoenix Suns, is now the focus of offseason trade talks as the franchise restructures under new head coach Jordan Ott.
The Knicks, who reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years, reportedly explored adding the 14-time All-Star in February.
Phoenix missed the postseason after finishing 36–46, leading to internal changes including the dismissal of head coach Mike Budenholzer and a shift in roster direction.
League sources told ESPN that between four and six teams are preparing formal offers for Durant, who averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists over 62 games during the 2024–25 season.
Durant, who turns 36 in September, is expected to be moved before the June 26 NBA Draft.
In New York, team president Leon Rose is expected to remain aggressive after the franchise’s best season since 2000.
The Knicks finished third in the East with a 51–31 record and eliminated the Celtics in the conference semifinals before falling to the Pacers in six games.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN said this week he is “98 percent sure” Durant will not return to the Suns next season.
Durant has played for the Thunder, Warriors, Nets, and Suns since entering the league in 2007.
