Despite swirling rumors connecting him to various European teams, Phoenix Suns guard Vasilije Micic remains grounded and focused on the present.
While speculation about his future has grown, Micic made it clear that nothing is certain until the Suns make their decision.
“There are plenty of rumors. I don’t pay attention,” Micic said in response to transfer chatter. “When my friends send me a message, if I haven’t signed anything, I have nothing to talk about.”
The 31-year-old Serbian guard was acquired by Phoenix from the Charlotte Hornets before the February NBA trade deadline. Since then, the player has seen limited action, appearing in only five games with the Suns.
While media outlets continue to link him with a return to Europe, Micic emphasized that his immediate future is still under the control of the Suns, who hold an $8.1 million team option on his contract for next season.
“I really don’t know. The team still has an option on my contract. And that’s a serious clause in the NBA,” he explained. “All I know is that I want to play.”
The Suns face a critical financial decision this summer. As a second-apron team, they are severely restricted in how they can build their roster.
Declining Micic’s option could offer significant salary and tax relief, but retaining it would also provide a useful trade asset during the upcoming season.
