Nicolas Batum has hinted that the 2025-26 NBA season may mark the end of his professional basketball career. In a recent interview with BeinSports, the 36-year-old said, “There’s a very, very good chance that the next season will be my last.”
Batum is expected to return to the Los Angeles Clippers next season to complete the second year of his two-year contract signed in 2024 free agency. His deal includes a player option for the upcoming campaign.
During the 2024-25 season, Batum played 78 games for the Clippers, averaging 17.5 minutes, 4.0 points, and shooting 43.3% from beyond the arc. He started eight games and contributed 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
In the playoffs, Batum’s role increased with 24.6 minutes per game across seven appearances, boosting his averages to 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. His experience added depth to a Clippers squad that finished fifth in the Western Conference with a 50-32 record.
The 2024-25 season was notable for the Clippers as they inaugurated their new home at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood. Despite challenges such as Kawhi Leonard’s knee injury and Paul George’s departure, the team secured a third consecutive playoff berth.
Batum’s potential retirement would close a distinguished NBA career that has spanned over a decade. The former French national team captain is known for his versatile defense and three-point shooting.
