Dwight Howard, who was officially inducted into the 2025 Basketball Hall of Fame last weekend, has decided to continue playing professional basketball for one more season.
As first reported by Chris Haynes on Twitter, the player has chosen to join the BIG3 league, where he will play for the Los Angeles Riot this summer.
The BIG3, the 3-on-3 basketball league founded by rap mogul Ice Cube, confirmed Howard’s signing in an official press release on Wednesday.
Howard, who has a storied NBA career, will join the Riot roster alongside former NBA guard Jordan Crawford and standout Elijah Stewart from USC.
All three will be under the guidance of head coach Nick Young.
While the big man has played for the Wizards (where Crawford also spent time) and the Lakers (where Young had a notable career), the two players were never teammates during their respective stints.
Howard expressed his enthusiasm about joining the BIG3 and furthering his basketball career in this new chapter, especially so soon after his Hall of Fame honor.
“I’m excited to join Ice Cube and the BIG3 – especially right after being inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame,” Howard shared in a statement.
“Words can’t describe how grateful I am for these opportunities. I can’t wait to join the L.A. Riot and try to bring another championship to the city of LA. But, the ultimate goal I have is to help the league go global.”
