The Toronto Raptors have officially made a couple of roster changes, as confirmed in a press release.
The team has decided to waive center Orlando Robinson and forward Cole Swider, ending their current contracts with the organization.
Robinson, who began the season with the Sacramento Kings, was released by that team in January.
Since then, he had a string of short-term deals with the Raptors, including two 10-day contracts, a two-way deal, and eventually a standard contract for the remainder of the season.
Throughout 35 games with Toronto, including eight starts, Robinson averaged 8.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while logging 20.4 minutes per night.
His shooting percentages were .447 from the field, .340 from three-point range, and .794 from the free-throw line.
Swider, on the other hand, joined the Raptors more recently after a stint with the Detroit Pistons, where he was on a two-way contract earlier this season.
He signed with Toronto on a 10-day contract in March and then received a standard rest-of-season deal just last week.
The former Syracuse forward appeared in eight games for the Raptors, putting up 7.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while playing 19.5 minutes per contest.
He made 35.7% of his shots from beyond the arc during that time.
Because neither Robinson nor Swider had contractual obligations extending past this season, the Raptors now have two open roster spots to work with.
According to Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca, Toronto is expected to fill those spots with players on multiyear deals, most likely with non-guaranteed or lightly guaranteed contracts.
This strategy would allow the team to evaluate potential talent during the summer without a heavy financial commitment.
It’s worth noting that both Robinson and Swider could still return to the team on new deals if they clear waivers.
Murphy also reports that the Raptors may consider promoting A.J. Lawson from his two-way contract to a full roster spot or potentially bringing back Colin Castleton, whose 10-day contract with the Philadelphia 76ers is set to expire on Saturday.
