James Harden’s 50-point performance helped the Los Angeles Clippers end a three-game losing streak, just as they were missing their top scorer, Norman Powell, and struggling at ninth in the West.
It was his first 50-point game since December 2019 and the first for a Clipper since Lou Williams in 2018.
Coach Tyronn Lue praised Harden’s effort, noting, “To see him come out and score 50 on a back-to-back at the age of 35 just says a lot about him and competing every night. We needed every bit of it.”
The veteran guard set new season highs with 14 field goals and 20 free throw attempts.
While he has taken on more of a facilitator role in recent years, Harden reminded everyone of his scoring ability, saying, “I can do it… it’s just understanding the game.”
Harden has played 16 seasons for 5 teams, including the Rockets and Thunder. He has averaged 24.0 points, 7.2 assists, and 5.6 rebounds in 1,131 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 10 All-Star games. He has won 1 Sixth Man of the Year award and 1 MVP award.
