Dennis Smith Jr. is parting ways with Real Madrid and looking for another opportunity in the NBA this season, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. The veteran guard joined the Spanish club in January but saw limited playing time during his brief stint overseas.

While Real Madrid was reportedly pleased with his effort and conditioning, the decision to leave appears to have come from the player rather than the team.

The 27-year-old played just two games in the EuroLeague, averaging 4 points and 1.5 rebounds in under 11 minutes per game. His role in the Spanish ACB League was even smaller, with 1.5 points in less than eight minutes per contest.

Real Madrid is currently 11th in the EuroLeague standings with a 13-13 record, keeping rotations tight as the team pushes for a postseason spot. With limited opportunities on the court, Smith may have determined that his best chance to contribute is elsewhere.

The former lottery pick last played in the NBA with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2023-24 season. Known for his athleticism and defensive intensity, he could provide depth for a team in need of backcourt help as the season progresses.

It remains unclear if Smith already has interest from NBA teams or if he will explore other options overseas. With the postseason race heating up, teams looking for veteran guard depth could consider him as a late-season addition.
