Dennis Smith Jr.’s time with Real Madrid could be coming to an early end, according to MARCA’s Nacho Duque.

Journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon initially reported the potential departure, and MARCA confirmed that the decision appears to be more on Smith’s side than the club’s. Real Madrid has reportedly been satisfied with his effort, but the guard may be looking for other opportunities.

Smith, who joined the Spanish powerhouse in mid-January, has struggled to make an impact. He has played in two EuroLeague games, averaging 4 points and 1.5 rebounds in just under 11 minutes per contest.

His role in the Spanish ACB League has been even more limited, with just 1.5 points per game in under 8 minutes of action across two appearances. With Madrid sitting 11th in the EuroLeague standings at 13-13, rotations remain tight as the team pushes for a postseason spot.

The 27-year-old has been working to regain his form after being out of professional action since April 2024. While Real Madrid had no complaints about his conditioning and work ethic, his lack of playing time could be a key factor in his potential departure.

Smith has not publicly addressed the reports, and it remains unclear whether he is seeking another European club or a return to the NBA. If he does leave, Real Madrid may look for a replacement to bolster its backcourt depth.
