Brandon Ingram hasn’t played for the Raptors yet, but he’s already made franchise history, notes Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca.
Ingram is the first All-Star to join Toronto in his prime, unlike Vince Carter, Chris Bosh, and DeMar DeRozan, who were drafted and developed by the team. Kyle Lowry and Kawhi Leonard didn’t initially choose Toronto, and Hakeem Olajuwon was past his peak when he signed.
Though it’s unclear if Toronto was Ingram’s top choice, the Raptors were among his preferred destinations, along with the Hawks. He confirmed his commitment by quickly signing a three-year, $120 million extension after the trade.
This deal includes a $38.1M salary for 2025/26, $40M for 2026/27 and a $41.9M player option for 2027/28.
Ingram said the Raptors want to help him become an All-Star again and see him as a key piece moving forward. He’s eager to learn, influence the team’s culture, and fulfill coach Darko Rajakovic’s vision.
