The Dallas Mavericks reportedly focused exclusively on acquiring Anthony Davis when exploring a potential trade involving Luka Doncic, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Despite trade speculation, the Mavs did not open discussions with other teams regarding Doncic, choosing instead to engage solely with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The franchise views Davis as one of the league’s top 10 players, a key factor in justifying the decision to part ways with their superstar guard.

Additionally, the Lakers included a 2029 first-round draft pick as part of the proposed package, further sweetening the deal for Dallas.

Another element influencing the Mavericks’ interest was Davis’ existing relationship with general manager Nico Harrison, dating back to their time working together during Harrison’s tenure at Nike.

Harrison also shares a professional history with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, who previously represented Kobe Bryant during his years as a player.

Despite the trade developments, reports confirm that Doncic never requested a move from Dallas.

The Mavericks themselves initiated discussions just “a few days ago,” offering Doncic to the Lakers as part of a proactive approach to reshaping their roster.
