The Sacramento Kings are not stopping at their recent trade for Zach LaVine. According to NBA insider Sean Cunningham, the Kings are “aggressively” pursuing further moves to improve their roster ahead of the trade deadline.
Sacramento is coming off a major deal that saw them send De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks, and three second-round picks. The full trade also involved the Chicago Bulls, who received Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and a 2025 first-round pick.
Fox, 27, was a standout for Sacramento, averaging 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. However, with Fox set to decline a contract extension, the Kings chose to move on from their star point guard.
LaVine, 29, joins Sacramento after averaging 24 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists for the Bulls. He will reunite with former teammate DeMar DeRozan and bring much-needed scoring to the Kings’ lineup.
Sacramento is currently 10th in the Western Conference with a 24-24 record, and the Kings are betting on LaVine to push them into the playoffs. Their willingness to trade away Fox suggests they are all-in on a stronger postseason push.
For San Antonio, the addition of Fox represents a big step in their rebuild. The dynamic point guard will pair with Victor Wembanyama to form a promising duo. Fox’s offensive game and playmaking skills should accelerate the Spurs’ rebuild.
Meanwhile, Chicago is moving into a rebuilding phase. The Bulls gain young talent in Collins, Jones, and Huerter while reclaiming their 2025 first-round pick. This gives Chicago the flexibility to reshape their future.
The trade marks a shift in the Western Conference playoff race, especially with the Los Angeles Lakers’ blockbuster deal for Luka Doncic. As the Kings push for the postseason, they are also focused on adding more assets to their roster.
Sacramento’s decision to part with Fox is a gamble, but the team believes LaVine’s scoring ability can cover the gap. The Kings also hope the added draft picks will give them long-term value.
The NBA trade deadline continues to shake things up, and the Kings’ aggressive approach shows they are ready to make a run this season. All eyes will be on how LaVine fits into their system and whether Sacramento can use their newfound assets to further improve.
