Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams led the Oklahoma City Thunder (18-5) to a 119-109 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans (5-19) on Saturday night. The duo combined for 58 points as the Thunder extended their impressive season with another win.

Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points, including 16 in a dominant first quarter where Oklahoma City set the tone early. Jalen Williams contributed 27 points.

Despite a strong third quarter by the Pelicans, who outscored Oklahoma City 29-22, New Orleans could not close the gap. Dejounte Murray led the Pelicans with 26 points, while Herb Jones added 24 in a losing effort.

New Orleans’ early struggles were compounded by turnovers, committing six in the first six minutes and finishing with 18 overall. The Thunder capitalized on these mistakes with their NBA-best defense, registering 13 steals in the game.

Oklahoma City’s ability to score in the paint proved critical, outscoring New Orleans 40-18 in that area. Gilgeous-Alexander’s relentless drives and layups kept the Thunder in control, even as the Pelicans made a late push.

The Pelicans faced additional challenges when Brandon Ingram, who recently returned from a right foot injury, exited in the third quarter after twisting his left ankle. Ingram managed only five points before his departure.

With their lead cut to nine points late in the fourth, the Thunder responded by scoring five unanswered to seal the win. Alex Caruso and Ajay Mitchell provided critical bench support, combining for 24 points.

The loss marked New Orleans’ 16th in their last 18 games, further emphasizing their struggles this season. Despite a brief rally, the Pelicans could not overcome the deficit caused by their poor start.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma City continued its strong form, winning seven of its last eight games. Gilgeous-Alexander recorded his 11th game with 30 or more points this season, cementing his status as one of the league’s top performers.
