Bruce Brown has faced persistent injury challenges since being acquired by the Raptors from the Pacers in January, but he’s eager to showcase his abilities as he approaches his season debut, writes Michael Grange of SportsNet.

Brown underwent arthroscopic surgery just before training camp, which delayed his return, but he is anticipated to rejoin the team during its current four-game road trip.

Reflecting on his struggles last season, the player opened up about the toll injuries took on his performance and how he was perceived by fans.

‘I don’t know if y’all noticed, but last year I didn’t look really engaged or (have) a lot of (the) energy I had with other teams because I was playing on one leg,’ Brown shared after Saturday’s practice.

‘I want that to be addressed: I know a lot of fans didn’t think I played with a lot of energy, and I didn’t want to be here – that’s on social media – but I do want to be here, I do want to play with these guys.

‘It’s a great bunch of guys, great coaches, great organization, but I was literally playing on one leg. It was tough for me mentally, I couldn’t move the way I wanted, play defense the way I wanted, so it was tough.’

Now healthier and ready to contribute, Brown is determined to change the narrative and prove his value as an integral part of the Raptors’ lineup. His return could provide a boost for the team as they seek to find consistency and establish momentum on the road.
