Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has responded to recent reports regarding the NBA’s decision to reopen its investigation into center Jaxson Hayes. The investigation pertains to a domestic violence incident that occurred in 2021.
“We’re obviously aware that the investigation has been reopened and we’re going to cooperate fully,” Redick stated. “But other than that, I’m not going to have another comment on that,” he added, as reported by Jovan Buha.
The league’s investigation centers on an altercation involving Hayes and his former girlfriend that occurred in July 2021. Following the incident, Hayes was arrested, prompting the NBA to conduct an extensive inquiry into the matter.
Initially, the investigation concluded without sufficient evidence to impose any disciplinary action against Hayes. However, recent developments have prompted the league to reassess the situation.
Details surrounding the renewed investigation remain largely undisclosed. The NBA’s decision to revisit this case signals its zero-tolerance policy regarding domestic violence. The league aims to reinforce this stance by thoroughly reviewing each situation as it arises.
This season, the 24-year-old center has been averaging 5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 15.7 minutes per game.
