Ish Smith has been hired by the Washington Wizards as a pro scout, marking a new chapter in his long-standing connection with the organization. Known for his veteran leadership and high basketball IQ, Smith brings valuable insight to his new role.

Smith appeared in 43 games last season with the Charlotte Hornets, where he averaged 3.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 17.2 minutes per game. Despite his contributions, Smith was waived by the Hornets at last year’s trade deadline as part of roster adjustments.

Throughout his 13-year NBA career, Smith was known as a journeyman, having played for 13 different teams. His time with the Wizards, however, was particularly memorable, as he had two separate stints with the franchise.

Smith first joined Washington for the 2019-2021 seasons, and then briefly returned during the 2021-2022 campaign, where his playmaking ability and work ethic made him a fan favorite.

Now, as he transitions from the court to the front office, Smith’s experience and deep knowledge of the game will be instrumental in identifying talent and supporting the Wizards’ future roster decisions.
