Stephen Curry opened up about his evolving relationship with longtime rival LeBron James after teaming up for the first time in their careers during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Curry and James played pivotal roles in leading Team USA to a gold medal.

Reflecting on the experience, Curry admitted it took time to adjust to liking his former on-court adversary.

“I had to get used to liking that guy after all of our battles,” Curry said, referencing their fierce NBA Finals matchups, via HoopsHype.

Despite their rivalry, Curry acknowledged that their time together at the Olympics helped forge a new dynamic between them.

During the tournament, Curry faced shooting struggles until the semifinals against Serbia and the gold medal game versus France.

Curry credited LeBron for boosting his confidence at a crucial moment in the competition.

“It’s positive self-talk,” Curry said, explaining how he coped with his shooting slump.

He noted that while the team was winning and he contributed in other ways, he knew he had to improve his shooting performance.

After a game against Puerto Rico, Curry recalled being asked about his shooting issues during an interview.

“I said, ‘No, we’re winning, and I know a flurry is coming,’” Curry recounted.

To his surprise, LeBron walked behind him and added, “Damn right it is.”

That unexpected encouragement from James caught Curry off guard but gave him a significant confidence boost.

“It came at the right time,” Curry said, highlighting how impactful the support from his former rival was.

The moment not only uplifted Curry but also signaled a shift in their competitive relationship. Over the years, Curry and James have faced off in multiple high-stakes NBA Finals. Their rivalry defined much of the mid-2010s, with Curry’s Warriors clashing against LeBron’s Cavaliers.

Teaming up for the Olympics marked a unique chapter for both superstars, allowing them to work together for a common goal.

Curry’s shooting eventually returned in the critical games, helping Team USA secure gold in Paris.
