After the trade, RJ Barrett quickly became the focal point of the Raptors’ offense, averaging a career-high 21.8 points per game over 32 games.
As he prepares for his first full training camp with Toronto, Barrett is eager to see what he can achieve over an entire season with the team.
Reflecting on his time with the New York Knicks, he cherishes the memories of contributing significantly to turning around a struggling franchise.
“I think people forget that we really built something there,” Barrett said. “When I arrived, we weren’t contending. We weren’t close, really. My sophomore year, we made the playoffs. Then, we just kept building.
“We gave the fans something to cheer for. And they deserve it, man. It’s a tough city but you earn their love. I’m glad we got there for them.”
Selected with the third pick in the 2019 draft, he played a pivotal role in revitalizing the Knicks and is now excited about applying that experience to his new role with the Raptors.
His transition to Toronto represents both a personal homecoming and a professional opportunity to build on his success and make a substantial impact.
