Kawhi Leonard reportedly had opportunities to continue his career with other teams before deciding that a return to Toronto was the right move for him.
According to Shams Charania, the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves were among the teams interested in acquiring Leonard.
Both were also prepared to discuss a contract extension with the veteran star.
Leonard, however, had only one season remaining on his contract and was able to narrow his options based on where he personally wanted to continue playing.
“This is a complete legacy play for Kawhi. There were teams – Detroit, Minnesota – others that had interest in trading for him, that wanted to trade for him, that wanted to give him an extension.
“But he made a decision because he had one year left on his deal to essentially weed out where he wanted to play, where he wanted to be. And so this is a legacy play for Kawhi Leonard. There’s no doubt about it.”
