Despite not receiving the same level of attention as Rookie of the Year contenders Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren this season, Rockets’ center Alperen Sengun made a significant statement in Tuesday’s game against Wembanyama.

Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle highlights that Sengun not only outperformed Wembanyama but dominated the matchup.

He recorded a career-best 45 points, along with 16 rebounds and five steals, achieving personal season highs in both categories.

Sengun expressed post-game that he was motivated to face the Spurs’ young star, who struggled in the second half, ending the night with only 10 points.

“I didn’t play that good last game against him, I can say,” Sengun said. “And I didn’t see that much double-teams. They just leave me one-on-one with Wemby. I just did what I do.

When you score, and score and score at some point, you get some emotion.

“It was great for me. He is so tall, he’s really tall, but he’s not that strong, yet. So, I was going at his chest and put him under the rim.”
