Eduardo PortelaThe new Euroleague format which would give three guaranteed spots for Barcelona, Real Madrid and TAU Ceramica encouraged a strong opposition in Spain. Eduardo Portela, chairman of ACB is also a president of ULEB. He is strongly against the closed league plan for Euroleague. His position is supported by majority of ACB clubs.

ACB is considering an idea to exclude Barca, Real Madrid and TAU Ceramica from the league in two years. Giving a chance for only one team to qualify for Euroleague through the Spanish league is not fair according to Eduardo Portela.

The new system will give four spots for Spain with three of them given to the 'big three'. That means that only one team will be decided by its final position in the league.

If the new format is approved, the teams are ready to go to the court and fight against it.
