As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare for the upcoming NBA season, the question of who will be the face of the franchise remains a hot topic of discussion.

During Lakers Media Day, LeBron James reiterated the message he conveyed last year – that Anthony Davis should step up as the face of the team.

However, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas has expressed doubts about whether Davis can fill that role effectively.

“No… Some people just ain’t capable,” he said on Gil’s Arena. He pointed out that players like Kyrie Irving and Dwyane Wade, who were teammates of James, didn’t need to be told to lead; they did it naturally.

Arenas emphasized the importance of a player taking the initiative and asserting themselves as a leader.

“So no matter how many times he’s trying to pass the torch,” Arenas continued, “if I’m sitting here like this [handing over the torch], and you’re playing like you can’t see it, there’s nothing you can do.

“The only way you can do it is if I’m retired, and then I let you hold the torch, and then I come back in the middle of the season, and you’re forced to be number one.”
