The Nets signed Dennis Smith Jr. to a one-year, $2.5 million deal (h/t Spotrac) after the point guard became an unrestricted free agent following a year in Charlotte.

Smith himself says that he was told that he was a priority for Brooklyn which made it an attractive landing spot.

“It was communicated to me that I was a priority, and the direction they were trying to go in was also on the same trajectory that I am in my career. I just thought it was hand and glove fit,” Smith said, via Erik Slater.

Last season Smith averaged 8.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 25.7 minutes per game for the Hornets.
