With a new era looming around, the Toronto Raptors are locking down their most precious future centerpiece.
Per TSN’s Josh Lewenberg, the Raptors are considering everyone except Scottie Barnes to be placed on the table once the open market finally opens in the offseason.
Added by Lewenberg, president Masai Ujiri has shown reluctance to split up the team’s top core in Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, and OG Anunoby, but the challenging 2023-24 season for them of having no first-round picks neither competitive direction could finally allow the executive to make a teardown from what he built.
This came in with no such surprise. The Raptors have dismissed Nick Nurse from his head coaching duties after five years. The firing may serve as the first domino to fall for them to take the rebuilding route.
With both Siakam and Anunoby still having a year left on their contracts, it seems that parting ways for all sides remain a possibility. The duo are two of the most talented and versatile wings and could perhaps snag tons of future draft assets which will be perfect to start a new generation for the club.
It remains yet to be seen what will happen next, but Toronto is certainly contemplating finally preparing its tools and starting from scratch.
