Luka Doncic made crucial three-pointers for the Mavericks to force first and second overtimes against the Lakers. The Slovenian superstar finished with game-high 35 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists.

He had just three shot attempts in the fourth quarter, missing the first two, but delivered when it mattered the most. In the first overtime Doncic took a single shot and that was the the second-overtime forcing three-pointer.

Lakers legend James Worthy was impressed by the Mavericks superstar. “Luka is just a phenomenal player,” the three-time NBA champion said. “That three, he hadn’t scored at all in that fourth quarter until he hit that three.

“I think the Lakers just couldn’t see to get that solid execution. They only had 18 assists and they put a lot of pressure on LeBron to create something without a lot of movement.

“But I thought that they played hard down the stretch. I just think Dallas had a better execution. Wood getting the floater in the paint. Some tough defensive blocks by him. And the Lakers’ inability to get easy buckets or even a decent shot.”

This season Doncic, the NBA’s leading scorer, is averaging 34.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 8.7 assists in 37.1 minutes per game.
